  • Reinvigorating my crafty side.

It has been so long since I've beenon here I had almost forgotten how great this forum is. Things have been extremely difficult for us this year, with the company my husband had worked for, for more than 20 years going bust, to 5 family bereavements and another two critical illnesses to deal with in less than 12 months. There hasn't been much time for crafting, or forums.

Although as a result of the demise of my hubby's employer he and his business partner have been running their own silk screen and digital printing company for a year now, to great success, thanks to their hard work and 40+ years experience between them (a little help from me to balance the books too).

Unfortunately the sadness of bereavement and family illness has taken it's toll, I have lost my way a bit, but have started counselling sessions, and through that have been encouraged to reconnect with crafting, hence re-discovering the forum.

I do have to make some difficult decisions about my day job at the moment, I am hoping that spending some time doing something I love and communicating with like minded people will give me the focus I need to make the right decision for me.

I hope to branch out over the summer and try as many new crafts and techniques as I can, I'll post pics as soon as I have anything worth looking at (if I can remember how of course!).

I just thought I'd share may thoughts, asI have spent a very enjoyable hour or so looking at all the fantastic work other forum members have to offer, and can't wait to share my bits and pieces too.

    Happy crafting everyone.

Helen sorry to here about your troubled times. I wasn't going to reply as I'm not very good at times like this , I tend to think things rather than speak them, but we are a tough lot us humans you know. It's at only at times of hardship in one form or another that you realise how much we can really pull together. I hope things take a turn for the better and look forward to seeing your work.

Welcome back to the forum Helen. I'm sorry to hear you've been having such a rough time, but I hope the worst is over now and you can continue on the road to normality. I'm sure the crafting will help you.

I can sympathise with you as I also have had a lot of family stuff, illnesses and such but fortunately no bereavements, to deal with as well as work problems over the last few years.

        Hello Helen
It's a good idea to try as many crafts as you can - you may find the one thing that absorbs you so much that you find an enthusiasm to brighten your day.

One day taster workshops are a good, inexpensive and quick way of trying out new crafts.

At this time of year, adult education centres often start planning one day events where you can sample various crafts (obviously not as in depth as one day workshops dedicated to one craft).

If you want to have a try at making felt, we have some free tutorials on our blog.

I believe the act of creating something beautiful is wonderful therapy.

Hi Helen, so sorry to hear all the horrible stuff that's happened...but well done for the new business! I've not been on here for a while and not very thoroughly when I do, I tend to skim a bit so I'm sorry for not saying hello before today. I hope you find some new crafts that help bring a bit of sunshine into your life again. Take care xxx
