  • Best Blog Host?

Sorry if this is the wrong section, but couldn't see where best to put it.

Can someone recommend a good blog "host"/"site"? I've never blogged before so it has to be easy to use I just thought I'd like to give it a go and am hoping that it may even help me become a little more organised, although that may be asking too much ...

Lots of us on here use Blogger, Google own blog site. It's templated and easy to use. There's a lot of help available and has lots of gadgets etc that can be easily added to the side bars and lots of templates to decorate it etc.

It depends what you want it to do, but most craft bloggers seem to use www.blogger.com which is really easy to set up, manipulate and has the followers thingy which is good.

I'm on a self-hosted wordpress (via my website) which is just as easy to use on a day-to-day basis but more complicated when it comes to changing anything.

You can also use www.wordpress.com which is very much like blogger but doesn't have the followers thingy.

Both those I've linked to are free and are the most popular choices for bloggers. There are others.

I'm a huge fan of blogging - used right, it can increase visitors to your website and there's so much you can get involved in if you want to. Not sure it'll get you organised though ;-)

You could try putting ';My' in front of Hippo Tree. I use Blogger and I am a complete numpty over things like this so it has to be easy.

You have lots of options, really:

thisishippotree, hippotreeblog, thoughtsfromhippotree, hippotreeathome, Iamhippotree, thehippotree, thehippotreeblog and Carol's excellent myhippotree, of course.

            You get the picture!

              Wordpress

Would definitely recommend Wordpress for the extra super easy download of photos and creation of galleries or slideshows. I have a self-hosted Wordpress blog for Milliemishmash but also blog in French for my family and some unknown readers on a free wordpress blog, and both work really well.
I used to have a blog on another host and the picture download was so slow it made me give up!

I use blogger and have found it really intuitive and easy to use. As I grow in confidence, I do more things and I also look at the widgets/buttons that others use which also lead to other super websites.

Give it a go, it is really good fun and you meet so many really lovely people.

Thank you everyone - very helpful! I'm often guilty of not thinking outside the box, and I've just proved it again! It is my birthday though, so I've been concentrating on other things today Like chocolate cupcakes and now some cider

Perhaps tonight isn't the best time start the ball rolling on the blog, but I'm game for a laugh, so I'm off to see what damage I can do

I personally love Blogger, I rarely read any blogs that aren't on Blogger and I follow a lot! I don't know if it's just cause I', used to it now, but I really don't like blogs hosted by Wordpress. I'm sure all of the main ones are pretty standard though

I use Blogger as well, I think its one of the most common hosts along with Wordpress. Both are fairly easy to navigate and use once you get the hang of it
