  • The 'boat' dance

Hi All, I've just heard a record (oh that makes me sound really old!) on the radio, that took me right back to my youth, does anyone remember doing 'the boat dance' usually at weddings or birthday bashes, you all sat down on the floor in a line, and then patted the floor either side in the time to the music (sounds bonkers if you have never heard of it before) anyway the 'record' I heard that reminded me of it was Get Down on it by Kool and the Gang, any wiser??? maybe its just me, but it made me laugh, when I thought of sitting on the floor, in my NEW clothes (sometimes Hotpants!) and doing this 'dance'. Oh how good we must have thought we were, sad thing is, I nearly 'got' down and did it!!!

lol, I know exactly the "dance" you mean and it brings back lots of drunken teenage memories, though we also did it to Sit Down by James

lol, age is only a number... what makes me feel old is when my younger cousin hasn't heard of some of the music hubby and I listen to and he's only twelve years younger than me!!! I feel really old and out of touch then lol... ah well the older ones are still the best

Darn it now I can't get the stupid tune out of my head that we did it too but it wasn't either of those, it's running throiugh my brain but I don't know what it was called or even any of the nonsensical words. You patted either side together, then alternating, then across, then on the back of the person in front, then you rowed the boat ( ah something about a boat in the song ) Oh come on someone put me out of my misery and name that tune !!!!!!
