  • Newspaper envelopes

Would you be put off if any items you ordered came in an envelope made from newspaper? I make all my envelopes at the moment out of magazines but that obviously can only be done for smaller items due to the size of the pages. I'm thinking about making envelopes out of newspaper - what do you think?
The items would be wrapped to ensure that the newsprint didn't transfer to the items and they would be stiffened using re-used cardboard. Any other problems you can forsee?

You can fix newprint by ironing or by spraying with hair spray.

Neither did I - my father in law is watching the kids whilst they are on the school holidays. Went home yesterday and he was doing the Daily Record crossword puzzle. Lo and behold my table was covered in newspaper print - felt like slapping him one but he is 80 - I have got 3 kids to run about after when I get home from work it feels like!!!

I think it is a fantastic idea about the newspaper envelope - how original would that be.

        Cheers.

Good idea! I think it would be really funny to get something in a newspaper envelope!!

Yep the hairspray thing works - I used to do a lot of charcoal drawings and used hairspray in an enclosed space....... ha! don't!! Use it outside or at least near an open door!!

From what I can remember the really cheap ones were the best but I'd try a test first to see how close you need to hold the can to the newspaper to make sure you don't get any 'grease' spots on it.....

Can't wait to see those envelopes!!!!

They are filled with rice so are fairly heavy and they have a zip at the bottom so I suppose you could put a stone in there if you wanted!! You would just have to be careful lifting them I suppose - they are double stitched so are quite strong but still.....

One thing to consider would be what would happen to the newspaper during delivery should it get wet - Newspaper's generally not that strong and disintergrates when it gets wet, although the hairspray may offer some waterproofing properties. Novel idea though and worth pursuing.

Good point - it tends not to matter with the magazine envelopes as they are thicker paper anyway - hmmm - might test some paper later. I lead such a fascinating life!
