  • OMG. Can someone please help out?

I had basically given my website up for dead! I hardly updated it and dont really have the time for it. However today i received an email from someone saying they wanted to buy a bookmark but couldnt seem to pay for it. It kept coming it with an error code.

So i had a wee look and i think i totally messed up on the whole paypal pro change over thing. I dont actually have a paypal pro account but entered details as if i had Yeah i know, have a good laugh! I did! I feel quite stupid and am hitting myself over any possible sales i have lost.

But anyway, I think i have fixed it.....can someone please try and buy something and go as far as going to your paypal but not actually buying it.

My Mr Site website expires in Nov and i really dont want to pay for it again. It is rubbish! Really is. If anything i might go back to the basic package. I dont want to loose my domain name though, so not sure what i will do!

I tried to buy a bookmark, I choose UK and clicked checkout with paypal and got the following message:

Sorry, there is a problem with this merchant's account. If you are able, please contact the merchant to inform them of the error.

The 'add to cart' button takes you to your own PayPal page and asks you to log in. That isn't what should happen. The 'view cart' button works fine. I think you will need to go through the site and change all the buttons if you want to use it. Not difficult but laborious. Easiest way is to make one button to suit all and use it as a template. That way it is reasonably quick. Check out my site as I use these buttons and see what should be happenning.

      Hope this helps

        Hi handcrafted,

with regards to what you can do to keep your domain is transfer it over to another company (e.g 123-reg)
I had my website with mr site but found that it was for me (didn't have enough options) so I have now changed over to Create. I have transfered my domain name over to them aswell so I haven't lost the domain name. My mr site was also due to expire in Nov but i have changed over already so that I didn't lose the domain name.

        Hope this helps

There was a whole big mess with Mr Site & Paypal Pro a while ago. There were instructions on the Mr S forum about what to do, but since they got rid of the forum that doesn't help! If you go add/edit shop, then add 0, go to the 'advanced' tab on any/all shop pages and remove any details showing in the Paypal Pro area, does that help?
Otherwise email [email protected] or try the 'live chat' - I've never done that so goodness knows if anyone is there answering live messages!!

I've recently moved my beads website from Mr Site to Create and will do the same for my jewellery one when that expires - I'd definitely recommend it so far!

(added) btw if/when you decide to leave Mr S, they don't make it very clear how to. You need to click 'buy' from the top tab, then 'move my domain name to another ISP' fromthe dropdown box. You have to pay them £15 to release it, but if you get a better service elsewhere it's worth it!

Thanks everyone! I think I will definitely move from Mr Site. Whats Create like? What level of package do you both have? Have you tried any other soft ware?

I have just set up a new site using the Google Freebie which gives you a .co.uk name. Check it out see what you think. It's dead easy to use and you can have a site running in an evening then tweak it as you go along. I have put a link to a tutorial on another thread as well. Mine is in my signature. Not perfection but for free I am more than happy with it and you can use the PayPal buttons as well.
