      Is the poem

      WE DON'T HAVE A CHIMNEY
FOR YOU TO COME IN THORUGH
AND IF YOU MISS OUR HOUSE
      I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'LL DO

      MUM SAYS YOU ARE MAGIC
      AND USE JUST ANY KEY
IF WE HUNG UP ONE OUTSIDE
IN A PLACE THAT YOU CAN SEE

SO I'M PUTTING THIS OLD KEY
      RIGHT BESIDES OUR DOOR
I'LL SAY MY PRAYERS AND JUMP IN BED
      AND NOT WORRY ANYMORE.

We made some cute plaques earlier in the year with either a papercrafted key, or a real blank one from a key cutter for children to hang outside!

Sooo cute! (we'll be having one, along with a bone for santa to give to the dog!)

        Hi
        It says,
No chimney for santa to enter you say
Well we know of a very special way
Next to your door, where santa will see
Just hang this special santa key
So just be happy and have some fun
With this Magic key, santas sure to come.

        Similar to yours still.

Ooo I bet the plaques were nice

another christmas idea we do is reindeer dust, porridge oats and glitter. thought I would add it here as parent will probs look in on the key thing

          the poem is

          It has once been said,
That right before you go to bed.
You should sprinkle magic reindeer food,
To quickly bring Santa and his brood.
For many years the legend has been told,
To boys and girls, both young and old,
Sprinkle the food throughout your yard,
Then finding your house won’t be so hard!
The reindeer can smell the food for 100 miles,
Just do not leave it in big piles!
After you do this you must go to sleep very fast,
Or Santa and his reindeer will not pass!

            NOOOOOO!

Please dont use glitter, it will kill any wildlife that eats it. Use edible glitter (coloured sugar) or hundreds and thousands - but not craft or cosmetic glitter.

Claire, i will see if i can dig out a pic, or the plaque (why is it you get all organised, make it early, put it away and dont find it for another 3 christmasses!)

I like the idea. Anything that brings the fun back into Christmas is alright with me/ Much better than loads of computerised electronic crud. What I can see looks great and the idea is great so go for it. You might need a lot of old keys though

sorry i missed this bit out

Note: If you live in an area where lots of non-magical creatures like pets or wild animals might get to the reindeer food and eat it, leave out the glitter. Glitter might hurt real animal stomachs and Santa's reindeer will still enjoy the feast without glitter. A good substitute for the glitter would be sprinkles used to decorate cakes and cupcakes

At least you would see the sparkle when they refuse to go out 'cos it's raining and do it somewhere else. (Just being positive for Carl)

                      I like that.

my next door neighbour doesn't have a fire so I used to say santa could come down my chimney and out my back door and into theirs.
they never asked if he had a key tho.

i have brought some of those sky lanterns to send up into the sky so santa and rudolf can see the way to our house. Really cheap on ebay. Keeps the magic alive for another year at least!
