  • Using candy sweets in craft projects

    Hi

I wonder if you could give me some advice, please. I am looking to make a photo frame for my girlfriend's Chrisrtmas present and decorate it myself. I have purchased some plain heart shaped frames which I am looking to paint and decorate with Love Heart sweets.

    So here comes the question...

Does anyone know the best way to preserve a Love Heat sweet as normally after a few days the air breaks down the image? I have thought of using some kind of spray laquer to seal them, but was wondering if anyone could give me any advice / suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Tim

Didn't the law change recently about using sweets or things that look like sweets which are not actually eatible ? I have seen a website who has withdrawn their fimo sweetie jewellery from sale on this basis.

I would look into this as I don't think we are allowed to use sweets or mock sweets in our crafts as a kid might try and eat them and the vanish wouldn't do the love heart sweets any favours.

Sorry to be negative maybe another crafter will post with more information.
That said as you are making a gift for your girlfriend and assuming she has no kids, she isn't likely to try and eat her photo frame, nor sue you if she does...LOL

i'm sure i saw a webpage somewhere where someone had made a photoframe using loveheart type sweets (the american version of them i think) embedded in resin.
I'm trying to wrack my brains but i think it may have been on crafster.org?

Does this new law apply just when you sell those items? I'm not absolutely sure, but I think if it's a gift, and especially for a grown up, the law may not apply.
