  • Hobby Craft Event - NEC

    Hi,

Is anyone headed to the hobby fair thingy at the NEC this weekend? I'm thinking of going on Friday and just wondered if anyone had been before or was going as i have no idea what to expect.

    Thanks,

    Hello Laura
I have been before on a few occasions. It is a very large space with loads and loads of exhibition stands.
It always gets very busy and there isn't many places to sit down so make sure you wear comfortable shoes!! It's a good idea to take you own sandwiches or lunch if you can as its very busy and can be a bit overpriced!!

I have got some great stuff in the past, bulk buying glitter and miri card etc. Be prepared for lots of people around each stand, well the popular ones at least!!
    Enjoy yourself!

I went to one a few years back when i was into making my own trousers to go out clubbing (gone are the days). I was hoping to come back with loads of mad, fibrant coloured material but there wasn't any, so i took a stroll into the hobbycrafts part and was amazed at how many stalls there were selling craft supplies. I bought my first few packs to make handmade cards from there and i haven't looked back since. It's a good day out, but also very long. I went on my own and felt a bit out of place but it would have been great if i'd had some company.

So my advice (as above also) take some food and a friend.

Thanks for all the tips they really helped!

I went to the event and really enjoyed it! Got some lovely pieces from Ray Skene (he had a feature in bead magazine not long ago) which were worth the trip alone! I also picked up some good tips on weaving etc and will be trying my hand at it as soon as i can!

Where are you? The NEC one is the biggie, but there's often a smaller version throughout the year. (I'm disabled too, but I'm walking wounded!)

EG, there's a yearly one held in Cardiff that I always go to. It's run by ICHF. If you go on their website, you might find one closer to you.

From the leaflet that came with our tickets the stalls will be
                Card Making & Papercraft
                Decoupage & Stamping
                Grow Your Own
                Beadwork & Jewellery Making
                Meet The Experts
                New Product Launches
                Demonstations & Hands on Areas
                Simply Wood Woodwork Section

It will be held at the NEC (halls 11 & 12) on 25-28 March 2010.
The spring show is very like the christmas one just substitute the christmas stuff with more general every occasion stuff. It still gets very busy.

I can only get to the Cardiff one in November. Usually, most stalls cover whatever is 'in' at the moment. One year it was wall to wall cardmaking, another it was full of beads!

There's still LOADS to see/buy though! You'll be surprised, not all of it will be Xmas stuff!
