  • some people need a hobby

Has anyone else who uses etsy heard about this person
    http://handmadeartisanfraud.blogspot.com/
she's made a blog JUST to seek out crafters/sellers not paying tax etc...!
Think it only affects the US crafters but how pathetic must she be to even think of setting this up in the first place!
    Bitter bitter person.
People like this annoy the *profanities* out of me!!

Just had a look at your link and I think the answer as to why they do it is in the last or next to last paragraph...

      (I copied & pasted this)

"The outcome of this case is between the Authorities and this seller, **** ********. When the Authorities finish their case, we won't know details about it, but they THANK US, and in some states, we even get rewarded."

to be honest I know its a bit of a mean thing to do but I think its fair enough. She gets rewarded out of it, and people who arent paying taxes get caught and have to pay taxes. Why should some of us have to pay and others not?

I know of literally about one hundred businesses who dont pay taxes even though they do regular fairs, sell through their site, etsy, shops etc. They are making a good profit. I would never dob them in to the taxman but I would be quite happy for someone else to. It annoys the hell out of me that I am paying so much tax and others think the rule doesnt apply to them.

Well done lady in america with her blog, i think its a great idea. And also I like how its now advertised on this forum, so even more people will see it, hopefully that will spur on the UK market to do the same. I await the backlash towards me now, but thats my opinion.

wow, ive been reading the blog, the woman goes a bit too far. Perhaps just a simple list of names would be ok, but the detail she goes into is crazy!!

its a different thing state tax, it should be included in all transactions, different states have a different tax rate in US.

Surely it should be a requirement of Etsy rules tho?

If the person doing the blog is doing it for financial gain...well.....

on one hand I think oh fair enough they should be paying tax but on the other I do not like the way they've gone about posting peoples business names and there is no point to the blog apart from to actually name and shame people out of business because if they're reported the tax dept sorts them out, so if people do get their finances sorted they can't continue tradiing because this sad weirdo has ruined their name!!

That was not comfortable reading at all. A bit of a witch hunt really.

Shame on those who take obvious delight in "outing" businesses and individuals they have decided need investigating.

It's disgusting that they feel the need to publicise it and then gloat over their victories.

There are far more terrible things that happen out there in the world than tax evasion

                          Bah! Rant over

I noticed that most people she/he is 'investigating' are bead and lampworkers - I wonder if thet's her/his line of business by any remote chance?

If that's the case I think someone should mention to her/him that it's a bit of a futile pursuit trying to put one's competitors out of business one by one and that, perhaps he/she should put her/his energies into making their own products better...

Also, if this person wasn't ashamed of what they were doing they would make it clear who they are...

Now then....I wonder if LUSH is paying their taxes
for bath bomb, soap & Skincare kits
plus Soap Base, Bath Bomb Ingredients, Butters,
Oils and packaging for Bath & Body Products
