  • Tax Refund ****!!!!

I got this in an email earlier today and it's a ****!! Have to admit I was going to call the number (which by the way is the correct one for the Preston Office) - but thankfully they had forgotten to attach the document they wanted me to download!!

Anyway, not sure if it's been shown on here before but thought I best put it here in case anybody else has not heard of it - as I had not done until earlier today!

That is the phone number for the Tax Credits Helpline for Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits. I don't think they deal with Income Tax or Tax Refunds.
I started off with nothing and I've still got most if left.

I got that one too! It was worded slightly differently (and didn't make grammatical sense!) and didn't have the security note on it. I figured it was a **** as I haven't done my return yet!!!!

I got a similar one a while back and just deleted it. The email address was a .co.uk which made me suspicious immediately. Why would IR email about a tax refund? Why would you need to claim it?

HMRC never email you to offer you a refund. They'd never make it that easy for one thing!

Never click on links in emails...
                      Absolutely.

But if you hover your mouse over the link, and look to the bottom left of your screen, the address the link goes to will appear there. This can give you a clue as to whether an email is spam or not.
