  • Am i charging to much

    Hi everyone

I have been doing the Custard Factory for three weeks now and not made a penny so i am starting to this my prices are a bit steep. can anyone give me some constructive critisism?

For my cards i'm charging between £1 - £2.50 depending on the detail (see my album)

And for my glass bead jewellery i'm charging £6 for two pairs of earrings
£3-5 for bracelets depending on beads & £12 for a set of necklace, earrings and bracelet.

Can anyone tell me where i'm going wrong?

sorry i don't really know much about cards but looking at your jewellery you could be underpricing it, especially on the bracelets.
The earrings are about average if they don't contain any 9.25 silver but your bracelets are lovely and you could easily ask a bit more.

people don't mind paying a bit more if it's handmade

I'm the opposite, I don't know anything about jewellery but would say your cards are very reasonably priced!!

Could it be that perhaps it just isn't the right venue? Sorry but I don't know anything about the Custard Factory.

The Custard Factory is in Birmingham City Centre but its a little off the track.

Someone has suggested Wellesbourne market, Stratford upon avon way

I've been to Wellesbourne market many times when I used to live in that area. I'd go and check it out first if you haven't been there already. It's a big market with loads of buyers, but a very cheap one. I'm not too sure how hand crafted stuff would go down there, compared with the chinese imported stuff. But good luck if you give it a go

              Hi!
I have just had a look around your website, I think your prices are very reasonable!!
maybe (as mentioned above) it could be down to the venue, also your stall? I know pictures of stalls never look as good as they do in real life, but looking at the pic on your website of your stall it did look a little - for want of a better word- messy (there I said it sorry!) The boards and table cloth don't match and there is a huge array of small jewellry that didn't seem to be in colour sections. It doesn't draw your eye in.
I don't want to be a meany, just trying to offer some advice?? Your items look great and are well priced, and the display needs to do them justice. I am a real sucker for packaging and shiny things, and I'm sure other shoppers are the same.

I hope things pick up for you soon, you have obviously put a lot of work in. Good Luck!

hi. I think your jewellery is very reasonably priced. I don't want to be mean, but I had a look on your website and it has a lot of spelling mistakes-sorry, but maybe that puts people off. It does me.

Hiya - I know the Custard Factory and I do wonder about it as a selling venue. They need to work harder at advertising it in my opinion (and ensuring all round quality of stalls) - there is such a golden opportunity there that is being missed - it's not far from town, there is parking nearby, they have a cafe, lazing around space, other galleries etc so they really ought to be making a big deal of the weekend markets and getting them on the map as a regular venue for people wanting something a little unusual....but be honest, how often did you shop there before setting up a stall? I live here, I love artsy venues and I rarely go because it never quite packs the punch I'm hoping for. I do live in hope that it will change though!

Either join in the advertising (hard on your own) or maybe think about new venues. You are not overpricing - if you start to charge less than mass machine-produced products then you might as well be giving your handcrafted cards and jewellery away - if anything you could consider upping your prices, certainly on some of the jewellery. I personally don't like cards to be pricey so that's trickier (sorry to all, but it's why I don't handprint my own cards either - the once used element to cards means I like to spend up to £2.50).

GOOD LUCK - YOU WILL GET THERE IF YOU STICK AT IT AND REMAIN FLEXIBLE.

I think your jewellery is really lovely and resonably priced.
