    don't worry.

I think your doing just about everything humanly possible! There probably are times when sales and visits will fall but i'm sure it will pick up soon. I've seen the quality of your work, you'll be fine.

to be fair we are doing very well and have orders coming in regularly
I suppose I just got a bit disheartened when I logged into google analytics today and saw the visits were going down
also that I haven't had any sales directly via the website ie people finding us independantly without me sending them to it myself
its early days yet I suppose

          Do you write a blog?

Incorporating regularly updated (or added to) content within a site is one of the best ways to ensure you pick up a decent amount of search traffic - the web equivalent of walk-ins.

Beyond that, it sounds like you're doing everything right. Try to get visitors to sign up to a newsletter too, so you can drop them a quick note when you list new products!

but probably not as regularly as I should
but will try to do it more as I've heard from a few people that it really helps to get you noticed

I used to try and advertise everywhere but now hardly no one visits my site either even though its coming up to mothers day.

I put mine up on twitter and got lots of hits

Yep. Regularity helps - try to do more than one post a week if possible (even if one is short) - and once you have posted, submit the URL to services such as "pingomatic" and "pingler" (look them up!) to try and get the posts indexed asap.

If you can stick to it for a month or two, you might find that google (and other search spiders) begin to re-train and visit your site more regularly - which is excellent when you start listing new items, etc...!

                    TeeHee

Basically they are services which will 'ping' various other sites on your behalf, to tell them that your blog has been updated, and that they should look again - e.g. the google spider, and so forth.

Just gives things a nudge in the right direction!

I only do that on days which end in y. Oh. Wait.

It's worse at the mo - paint fumes have combined with the usual intake!

Good subject this one. My best friend (no sniggers, I do actually have one!) is a very experienced and succesful SEO engineer and the other day she sent me the latest article on website link building. It seems that google, which is by far and away the most popular search engine, is moving away from link exchange schemes and more towards links from social sites, such as this forum. The report suggested ways to boost your rankings and therefore your traffic:

                          1. Join forums such as this one, add a link to your site (e.g. on your signature) and post subjects regularly.

                          2. Join social groups such as facebook, mysite, twitter etc. and post links from your profile to your website.

                          3. Write articles on sites such as squidoo on your craft and designs and again post a link to your site.

The report goes on to describe a lot of other means (god it's sooo boring!) but my friend reckons the above three are probably the most important.
Now I'm going for a lie down because my head is hurting
