  • What is Twitter...?

    Hi All,

I know I may sound really silly right now but what exactly is Twitter? I have noticed that it is popular and loads of people rave on about it but I don't really know what it is or how it is useful... I already have a Twitter, but I have only really started trying to use it.

Has anyone got any helpful tips or suggestions...?! ^_^

    Thanks so much,
    Amanda

    Hi
I use it as a venting anger aid! No seriously, it's kinda like a slightly longer version of your status on Facebook (well, thats my thoughts on it).
I have been doing it for about a week, and you can follow each others to see what everyone has been up to.

Twitter is like a journal, you enter short sentences about what you are doing etc.

I use Facebook and a blog as well, these two give you more space to enter information and you can link very easily to your web site. Facebook also has the option to have a business page which is useful. I know from the analytics that I have had referrals from both of these.

Rule of thumb, anything that is free advertising for a business cannot be a bad thing.

Here is a link to how to get the best out of twitter, Twitter Checklist

To follow up on what the above posters have mentioned, each post allows you 140 characters to say what your up to, advertise or whatever.

There are more and more celebs joining Twitter such as Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross, Will Carling, Russell Brand, Philip Schofield and you can click the follow button and see what they are up to.

It does seem strange at times seeing a conversation unravel between two celebs, such as Will Carling trying to get tickets for Dancing on Ice from Schofield!

if you join, you'll get plenty of people follow you, some good some bad esp if you follow them back. You'll then get bombarded with posts.

For example I love wildlife and someone called dr Falcon had obviously seen I had an interest in teh peregrine falcons so chose to follow me. I clicked the button to follow back, as you do, and then this morning i have pages of one word messages all over Twitter from him meaning absolutely nothing. So, i've now unfollowed him, if thats the right expression !

Have a try and see if you like it. There are plenty of great people on this forum that use it and have fun chats as well !

            Hope that helps

Sounds interesting when you put it like that, but I don't want to use my real name on-screen, so what do I do?

I've just joined Twitter, courtesy of my son, who set it up for me. I still don't know if it will be useful or a major time waster ( I hear it can become addictive) but I'm checking out the link for small businesses.

okay, i think i understand. as it's only 140 characters you can use it doesn't seem like you can say much at all and i love to talk! hahaha.

So how about we all swap links?

Well now I've had a good look around I've decided Twitter is not for me. I'd be forever gabbing and getting no work done, and to be honest, I don't really see the point? Maybe I'm just out of touch, heh heh!
