    Goodness, I don't think anyone's safe, it's quite scary

To be fair, there is only room for so many discount sofa warehouses!

Card Warehouse - that was news to me. I am slightly surprised by this - does anything have a view on why? Is it because the margins are tight, competition..? Hmm.

Findus - not sure if it is the whole company (their main website is still up), or just one 'arm' e.g. production of frozen food?

Oh well. On some level I will miss crispy pancakes, even though I haven't eaten one for at least a decade..!

The Card Warehouse in my local town has closed down and is now empty. I think it happened before Christmas.

A lady has been to see me today to cancel her wedding reception becasue she workjed for Adams and has been made redundent and now can't afford the cost of the wedding. Really felt bad for her but there was nothing I could do.

My husband delivers furniture to stores like land of leather and DFS amoung other companies, so I hope this doesn't affect him. We really can't afford him to lose his job.

It is really scary, I honestly didn't think things were going to be this bad and this is just the beginning. Ok so I can understand furniture stores, Woolworths and Adams going but Findus?????? I would have thought they were one of the safest companies, after all, don't we all eat frozen food of some sort???

You might be surprised by the answer to that!

I wouldn't find it hard to imagine Findus' sales being damaged (in certain departments) by a combination of pressure to eat healthily, plus the availability of much cheaper replacements..

It's really quite scary, I don't worry about my job (childcare), but I worry for my boyf's job at a small electrical company.
My dad has been made redundant which shocked me as he ran a canteen at a chemical factory site thingy, they decided that it was costing too much to keep a canteen open there. It doesn't really affect my dad as he was retiring anyway, but I can't begin to think about all those other jobs

Yes I suppose but what can be a replacement for frozen????

You can still east healthy but buy frozen. Oh unless its the part of Findus that makes convenience foods???? I don't know, it's still all very scary. So glad I'm going to start growing my own veg, shame I can't get some livestock too!!

                      "The Good Life" maybe????

It's very sad for all when a business goes to the wall

A local rather large shop owner near us is expecting alot of shops to announce closer come the end of March when quarterly rents are due , as so many did very little business over Christmas and virtually none expected in Jan and Feb

I'm ever grateful to my parents now who taught me to cook from scratch, grow veg, knit, sew and basically live cheaply

Card Warehouse in Lancaster AND Morecambe shut this weekend, so that's both branches round here gone.
Our local paper said all that would be left would be mobile phone shops, Coffee shops and branches of Gregg's bakers! It was funny at the time but it looks like it's coming true now :-(

Actually I think it will be the likes of Greggs and the coffee shops that go next, people won't be able to afford their prices, and there won't be so many workers to buy from them. Those workers that are left will probably start taking pack lunches and flasks!

I was saying to the other half last week, that it's getting like a bloodbath out there, and that we should go and take pics of the high street in Burnley, so that we can show them to the grandchildren in future years and show them what a high street looked like and that there was once more to shopping than Tesco.
