  • Blogging!!

So many of you on here seem to blog, that I am thinking about starting one up myself.

I use Twitter and facebook, but do you find blogging an effective marketing tool? I've never really read them much, so a bit of a novice on this front

How does the linking to each other thing work and does this add to your marketing etc...

Also... What are the best blog sites to use?

Sorry for asking so many questions!!

    Hi there,

I use Blogger.com and blogs are certainly the new black!

I find them interesting and yes, people do really follow you, as long as you write about interesting and funny stuff. People can follow you/you can follow people (there is a gadget option on blogger that can do this all your for you). My blog has only been going for 3 months and have today reached 1000 visits. That's pretty good going. But I do market myself everywhere possible ie., different forums, website, blog directories, web directories etc.

I would recommend it, at least you can show off your handmade goodies to the world. If you haven't got a website, then a blog could be your way of selling. I would say blogger.com is easy to use, but then I'm quite computer literate and not afraid of trying anything - not everyone is like this. I don't know everything, but often look at other peoples blogs to get ideas for things - especially on marketing.

It doesn't cost anything to use so why not try it, you can get lots of help on here. Just ask.

Hope that helps and answers some of your queries.
    Take care

    Kathryn

Take the plunge join blogland, it is quite addictive, this is coming from someone who has not posted for 2 weeks, been busy on the forum (oops meant making things for my events) normally post every Monday and have loads of links and am now getting followers. Well worth the effort and nothing that is free can hurt your business.

Blogger is quite good - I use them myself.

Make sure you add a link to your site from your blog - because blogs are rapidly (and regularly) indexed by search engines, this will help to make sure they find you.

If you use Facebook + Twitter, publish news to there when you update your blog - I would be interested to hear on how effective you find this in terms of marketing / building up interested from social communities though!

Sorry to jump on to your thread. I have none of these. Do you all sell on them and get interest on facebook. I would love to have feedback please.

To be honest, my website is not live yet, but nearly so (she says, finger's crossed!!)

I have set up a facebook page for my business - although not set that live yet, and use Twitter quite a lot.

Although I'm still in the early stages in terms of marketing - many of the crafters on here use twitter to advertise listings, shops and really just day to day business stuff, and it's made me look - so other people must be doing the same thing.

Think I will set up a blog, and then i can talk about my launch on there - anything to help!!!

Will a blog on your web site be searched same as a blog on a proper blogging site?

Difficult to answer. I suspect the short form of the answer is "No".

However, there is a degree of cynicism involved in this!

E.g. "Blogger" is run by Google - so they will definitely index new content from there faster!

In theory the search engines should (after enough time has passed) "train" themselves to some extent - so that they know how often different pages in your site change. If a high change rate is detected (e.g. blog with a daily post), that page should be made a higher priority for crawling/indexing.

You can assist this process by setting the changefreq node in your sitemap, if you submit one to Google - although it is not guaranteed that this field will be applied!

"Content is King" - the more content you build up the better, so it will be beneficial to have the Blog within your site, at any rate. Especially if you are careful and word the text appropriately - so that it is "good" for both people and search engines (remove 'dead' words like 'this', ensure keyword repetition is appropriate, etc).
