  • Wedding stationery worry

I have been asked to make the invitations for a friends wedding(in 2008 but it wont hurt to make a start).
They have said they are happy to pay me but I dont want them to.
As long as they buy the relevant bits and bobs, Id happily make them for free(at work where i do nothing, theyd be doing me a favour!)
We are not close friends but we get on and I was invited to their engagement doo last weekend.
As I said Im happy to make the invites for nothing and I dont want them to push payment onto me, but then again if they decide to not pay me I dont want them to think they have to repay me by inviting me to their wedding.

Am I just assuming too much?Am I reading too much into this?
Yes id like to go to their wedding but we are not super dooper buddies so if they dont invite me thats fine.

    What am I worrying about?!!!!Aaaarrrhhhhh!!!

Helen made ours a couple of years ago,
We kept them quite simple. The colours we stuck to in the wedding (Silver and Lilac) were reflected in the card so the flowers, balloons and stationary all matched up.

We are quite minimalist (well, except when it comes to Helens craft resources - then its more more more) and I would suggest simple and formal is better.

I hope it all goes well - I remember the mass production of it all got veeeery repetitive for Helen after a while.
      Terry Pratchett quotes:
“Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.”
“It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living.”
“In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.”

Thanks, Im hoping they will want something simple.Ive expressed Im not keen on doing small fiddly stuff which they didnt seem to mind.
Il have to see what colour theme they have in mind for the wedding.
At the moment I relly like the idea of a magic motif flower or butterfly coverd in appropriate colour glitter just in the corner of a plain card.
Say a white card with a plum butterfly in the lower left hand corner.Simple, glam and pretty.
Luckily they can also save a fortune by printing out the insides themselves.

We did the same thing with the inserts - although go the extra saving of me using the printers at work (with permission obviously) - All we paid for was the decent quality paper.

hehe-Ive printed so much off here on the colour printer that Im not connected to it anymore.
I think they 'accidently' forgot to reconnect me when they improved my computer.
I see it as perks of the job.

But your right, for wedding stuff its best to ask.
The managing director got married last year and had a nightmare printing off the order of service, I dont think thr paper was compatible. But it worked out well in the end.

Simple is best for wedding stationery and magic motifs sound like a good way to go. Ask the bride what flowers she is interested in for her bouquet and see if you can link a theme together from that. They may have thought of a theme already - butterflies are 'in' at the moment. Bright colours are in at the moment too but you have to be careful with them - you need to keep them very simple. As for fiddly things - don't let them have beads on the front!! It is very fiddly and very, very time consuming - and very annoying when the 10 beads fall off the piece of string you've spent 5 minutes making!
              Good luck with it

If you are worried about paying, find the stationery you would like to use, let them know where it's from, and suggest they look at it first, if they are happy, buy it and then you will be able to make them up for them.

This way they pay for it and you get out of a sticky situation.
