  • Bag handles in leather?

    Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has an idea how can I make some handles in leather for a new crochet bag that I just finished?
I thought I could use some leather thong because I have no sewing machine. Just making some kind of rope with it but I don't know how.
    Help, please?

A good way to use leather thongs is through braiding, very simple and quick to do. Just make sure to use a braid that's comfy to hold. You could use different colored thongs to weave a cool pattern.
Do a search on lether braiding and whip making to see some very quick 'how to' examples.

    Good Luck

The braiding idea sounds great. I also buy narrow plastic tubing from pet shops (used for fish tanks & very cheap) sometimes I thread crocheted chain or cord though the tube or wrap something around it.

I've also seen some wire handles that are beaded & look simple but fab

Thank you for your ideas! I really love the braiding one.
I am just wondering if it will be too expensive as I need a pair...

Well, how long do they need to be, and what colour do you want? I have some black thong that might help you out, y'see...

Failing that, try a charity-shop. They often have leather belts (or even clothes) that you could cut up...

I really appreciate your help, thank you!
The handles need to be around 55 cm/ 22" long and I think dark brown would look nice.
I had a look at the charity shops but nothing really suitable... I will keep my eyes open.

I have a book on kumihimo (braiding on a circular stand) lots of the braids in it would be suitable to use leather to make handles. I made my 1st stand called a marudai, with a jig saw cutting a circle from an old shelf that was destined for the bin and nailing 4 leg to it and the other half of the shelf as the base for it
