  • Noobie - Kiln Question

    Hi All

I'm looking for some advice. I need to heat a crucible to 500C for a project I'm investigating. Currently oil furnaces are used but I really dont like these as they are messy and dangerous.

I'm looking at building a heater from kiln elements to heat up a crucible of around 8" diameter 3" deep in the centre.

Firstly would metal or ceramic be the most efficient material for the crucible(im boiling off a liquid as part of a distillation process) to conduct the heat and maintain a constant temp ?

Lastly what heating elements would be needed and what wattage would be needed.

    thanks!

    Pom
