  • Advice for starting a Craft Group

    Hi all,

I am trying to get a craft group started and wanted to know if any one could help me? I have a venue and I know the type of things I would like to cover but how do I get people interested or to know about it before it starts? I am not really going to be making any money out of it but I will charge £2.00 for the 2 hour session just to help with the venue and material costs.

I really cannot afford to do loads of advertising to get the interest but I do need to get the word out and make sure I will have enough people attending etc...

Is it better to do it Weekly or fortnightly? I really would appreciate any help or advice anyone could give me as I have not run a group o even attended one - I would just like to get one going for the local community and am then hoping that we could make items to raise money for local causes.

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi I started a card making group last May cant believe it s our !st birthday soon. I didnt spend a lot on advertising designed a poster on the computer and then sloggeed around local shops and notice boards asking people to display also library is good place.
I have found most folk come through recommendations though most people seem to prefer to come with someone they know rather than 'cold calling'. Hope you have a great time doing it I have learnt so much.

        Hiya,
Have you tried sending an 'advert' into craft magazines? Not an advert as such but in the card making mags that I buy, there is a section at the back where you can tell everyone all about your group etc. I always look for one near me but there isn't one yet.......
        Hope this helps

That sounded a bit sarcastic but it was meant to be more of a thought process - sorry

Tried all of those things! Maybe a technical wizard can help me in the morning - it's too late to be thinking about these things!

Hi Swirly, think you need to change your settings slightly, I had the same problem when we went over to this new jazzy forum .

Thought I could go in and change them for you but obviously not so I'll try to explain how to do it...ready...

Click on UserCP at the top of the page
                      Then click 'Edit options'
Right at the bottom of your options you got Misc Options and a drop-down bar - you need to select 'Enhanced Interface'

And you should get your smileys back
