  • Sewing Patterns

    Hi all,

I have searched ebay for sewing patterns there are some lovely ones there, I really want to make some corsets, however the p+p seems very high for just a pattern and at times the cost of the pattern, just wondered if anyone could reccommend some online stores or high street stores which may be worth a shot

    Hi!
What kind of corset do you intend to do?
A historical one (which is often heavily boned) or a modern one?
I might be able to help you there!

        Hi there!
I have some patterns for corsets of the 19th century, but no modern ones at the moment (partly because the modern ones derive from the historical ones).
I don't know if you have some knowledge in pattern cutting - if you do, some pattern cutting books (see amazon, uk) show you how to do corset patterns for the modern shape!
        Hope that helps!

          Hi Hannah

Have a look at http://www.venacavadesign.co.uk/Prod..._Patterns.html they might have something you want. I've not used them personally but bookmarked them when I was going to make some 17th Century stays

Ooo, making corsets - how exciting. I own three but have never tried making one. Be interested to see how you get on (opportunity for lewd jokes no doubt!?)

Deffo Vena Cava. I've seen them grow from selling boning to covering (nearly?) everything corsetty.
Have you been through the pattern catalogues in your local fabric shop? There should be a pattern or 3 in there and if the shop hasn't got it they'll order it for you.
But really and truely a corset should be made to measure or it will be terribly uncomfortable to wear. I really would go and buy a corset book and knock up your own pattern that will fit you like a glove.

There are a couple of sites out there now that offer downloadable patterns so no waiting or paying p&p.

The ones that spring to mind at the moment are Burdastyle and Patternspot.com

No idea about corsets though so they might not be appropriate for your needs.

                  Happy Stitching!
