  • Sewing machine help

I haven't used my sewing machine for a while now and the problem that I had may not be there when I dust it off but I'll ask just in case it is. When I sew (just normal stitch) the top side looks fine but when I turn the material over, the back looks like someone has just bunched up a load of thread and chucked it at the back. It's all messy and looped together - if that makes sense! Could it be the bobbin tension that's not right? I have a friend that could help but I won't be seeing her for a while and I want to try and make a skirt for my little girl
Anyway, if anyone can help I would be very grateful
    Thanks

It sounds like you need to adjust the tension! Same thing happened to me and my wise mum suggested it was the tension. Hope this helps

Fantastic - thank you. Now how do I adjust the tension or will it be obvious when I get my machine out?

        Hiya,

You can't adjust the bobbin tension, you can only adjust the top thread tension. There should be a dial somewhere on your machine (depending on how old it is) experiment with different tensions.

Also make sure your bobbin is threaded correctly and sitting properly, when you first thread your machine are you making your needle go down once by hand to catch the bobbin thread and bring it up with the top thread?

Thanks - I sorted it out last week - it was the little screw that is on the bobbin - it was too tight. I actually read the instructions and lo and behold it told me what to do lol
