  • Vintage Style

I've had a sewing machine for years now and have dabbled on and off all that time. I'm still at what I consider an amateur level, but I try my hardest. I sew mostly vintage styles, because that is where my heart lies.
I made this from a sixties pattern recently. The sleeves are meant to be that length

And the Edwardian skirt that I finished at the weekend .. the hems really aren't wonky, I'm standing with one hip higher than the other .. oh and I can iron, it's just that the skirt is linen and creases like the very devil!

          Lovely, they look great.

Though I am rather concerned about the clothes I wore as a teenager being described as "vintage" :
Ah, Biba, those were the days!

Aww thank you everyone! I'm pleased you like my dress.

I have some other photos somewhere of the dress I wear to 1940's events, so I'll dig that out to show you. I also have a dress I made from a fifties pattern that I have yet to take a picture of.

Oh indeed yes! I go to forties events regularly and the dresses are so lovely! I made some gloves once and a hat too, but it makes me look like Eliza Doolittle

I know, heh! It all went horribly wrong and what was a forties pattern skipped back in time at my hands! Everytime I try this pattern, it just goes all Eliza on me

(I do know my eras by the way I adore Audrey Hepburn)

That 60's dress is just fabulous and I really like the 40's one too. I buy my vintage clothes from the second hand shops but I am slowly learning how to make clothes with my machine - I'll get there eventually!

Oh I think you are very talented. I love the 40s dress. Oh the romance of it all eh? I used to have a psychedelic dress like the blue one, with a zip up the front and a large ring hanging on the zip slider. Memories eh? xxx
