The "face" is bought as such from crafts magazines, it's papier mache. The details are lacquered cardboard, acryllic resin cast in moulds and paint.

Ah, all I can see are squares with little red crosses inside. Do I still click on them to see the pictures?

Thanks Alex, I can see them and they're great. The first one looks like a 'Green Man', not sure of the history behind it I'm afraid...is it a mythological character in your country? What meanings do they have behind them? Maybe speak no evil or a silent character for the other mask? Hope you don't mind me asking

The ivy character is a faun or satyre, of course, a bit of my interpreting. They are mythological characters thought to be half-gods of the forest and satyre masks were popular in antiquity then had a new burst during the Renaissance. The second is related to the "Bauta" meaning of the Venetians, this mask was used by upper-class people in order to a) allow them to drink without removing the mask (hence the peculiar beak) b ) speak and have their voices slightly distorted so that they were not recognizable. Bauta had often a silence symbol in the place of the mouth - a sewn pair of lips, a closed gate etc.

Very good piece of work. It's very difficult to make. How did you make it.

The mask was bought as such (but recently I started to mould my own ones from papier mache). The golden decorations are extruded from acryllic paste and then modelled with various metal tools. The "hat" is black linen on cardboard sewn with golden beads. The captain is a valiant guy but his nose tends to be snotty (fake pearls pendant)
