  • OMG!!!!! Spent too much money!!!

    OMG!!!! OMG!!!!! O M G !!!!!!!

I decided to have a tidy up of all my craft stuff this morning. It was driving me mad, I couldn't find a thing!!!! I can't believe how much stuff I have that I had forgotten about!!! I've only been doing my cards about a year and I must have spent hundreds of pounds!!!!! I daren't say thousands!!! There I've said it!!!!! I am horrified! Why don't I just use stuff up instead of buying new and then using some of the new stuff so that another pile of half used stuff starts!!! Please tell me you are all the same!!!!!
I think I'm getting a complex!!!!! Sue xx

For me its ribbon - I think I am addicted to it. If I go anywhere and see pretty ribbon, whether I have a use for it or not, I have to have it. I have drawers full of the stuff - I would never reckon up how much I've spent as it would be too frightening!!!!.

I think we are all the same. I keep very accurate records of stock and materials - i.e. when I use anything I take it out of materials and put the made items in as stock and I am horrified to see the monetary value of the unused materials!!!!!!! Also where do some of the things disappear to, they are here somewhere, but because not readily in view they do not get used and you find you have bought something else instead. I am sure we would all be better off if we could curb the desire to have all the new things we see!!!

I think all crafters need more space, ideally a warehouse, bit big you are thinking but think what fun you could have filling it with all the new ideas that come into the shops to tempt us and our bank balances.
I now have two rooms my excuse is one is a sewing room and the other a workroom, for all crafts not sewing, plus the cupboard at the top of the stairs, ooh! I forgot the under stair cupboard as well, perhaps I can persuade DH to build an extension just as storage, I don't think. good job he never looks at my business accounts or he would have a fit, my way of looking at it is that the stock does not eat or drink and in some ways I have saved money buying at the time and not when I need it. Plus loads of stuff is a condition of being a crafter.

What do you think, is this convincing or not?

Yes - that's the answer - we all bought when there was a promotion on, a money off offer, a two for one offer etc etc so we have in the end saved money!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive just watched freeview channel for the past 4 hours and Ive spent a fortune in my head on all their card making stuff, and I dont even make cards.

Im also doing a stock check, seeing what beads Ive used in comparison to whatIve ordered as they dont seem to match up, so where are all the things I havnt used!!!

I used to be the same but since I've had my studio which I pay rent for I've found all these craft items I've not used up! Unfortunately due to having an op and an infection ,I've not been able to get to my studio so have been doing some sorting out of items such as beads, trimmings etc into containers. DH went and collected from there . Very rewarding! I received a lovely gift of vouchers for the Range this week from staff in work.......................and I've yet to spend them...can't think what I really need to buy, and last time I visited there I could not find anything that I had the need to buy. Was quite disappointing...so I had to buy all these other things to make up for it!

I only ever buy exactly what I have planned to buy, I never overspend and I don't have mountains of unused beads, wire, findings etc. Yeah right. Haha.
I have just commandeered my son's rather large playroom because I have outgrown my workroom. So right now I have my stuff in two rooms, don't know how long I can get away with that one!! But hey it keeps me happy and my OH hasn't objected .....yet.

My excuse is that I need to try out all the new products that I stock so I can advise the customers correctly...somehow I can kind of justify it to myself like that although when we moved all the stock into my shop from the house hubby couldn't believe we still had a room full of craft stuff which was my own personal stuff.

Also you've got to love this - a lady in my shop t'other day bought about £35 of stuff and asked if she could pay for some of it on her card and the rest in cash. As she handed over a £20 note she explained that her hubby would see the credit card statement for £15 and think that was all she had spent - I thought it was absolutely genius
