  • Shrigley Hall Craft Fair

Hi everyone!!! I'm back!! Got up at 5.30 this morning as we had to leave at 7 so if this turns into gobbledey gook it's because I'm a bit tired.

The Craft Fair wasn't in the actual Hotel, it was in like a big barn type outbuilding ( a listed building apparently). I was the second table from the door so it was chilly but not too bad. Everyone on the stalls was really nice and it really was a good experience. My sister came from Derby about mid day so that my hubby could go back with her hubby and watch the footie then they came back for us at 5.

Quite a lot of people came through but not many people were buying. Every stall holder said the same, a few were really cheesed off about it!!
I didn't sell a lot but got a lot of praise and people were genuinly amazed that I had made them all! One man said he had a card shop and would I be interested in letting them have some of my cards so something may come from that.

I am posting a few pics that we took. One thing that I wonder if any of you have come across when you do Craft Fairs is that most of the stalls sell goods that are not hand crafted. There was me, a lady selling lovely home made choc and a lady selling knitted goods that I can only remember!!!!! Oh Well!!

The lady who organised the Fair was lovely and I have booked a three day fair in November at Salford Quays. I had better start the Xmas cards now!!!! Well, I'll say bye for now. Hrere are the picshttp://www.flickr.com/photos/16770757@N02/2429063224/

Aw I'm so miffed I couldnt get to see you in person today Sue lovey but you must tell me more about your Salford Quays booking, I used to work there, maybe I could join you, I dont have anything booked for November yet babe!

Your stall looks really lovely, I like the flowers, what a nice touch, very you! And how nice to get a photo with your first customer. Its always a shame when stallholders report that people arent buying but I agree 100% with what you say, sometimes other opportunities come from a fair, like your contact with the shop owner - you just never know what might come from any event

      Well done SusieQ

          Hey there,

it was great working with you yesterday im still miffed that you didnt sell more than you did, we did really well at the show althought it could have been slightly better,My target was to break even but we trippled that so it was ok...

Btw all the photos are hand made too :-) the frames are hand made the prints are hand made and so are the photo gifts :-P

it was a good show but it did seem people were keeping money in there pockets.

See you at the lowry, ive booked all of em

            Sue,

Sorry it wasn't as busy as you hoped but you shop owner sounds like a good contact.

Half the times these fairs aren't about what you do on the day but future sales and contacts. The good thing about meeting other crafters is their the ones who know about other shows and that's worth going for.
I used to do every fair I was invited too but recently I dont go if they let shop bought stock in. You can't compete with them and their imports.

The very best of luck in all your future shows.

            Cheers Janice

Love the pics - I saw them before your thread (I have a system of how I do the catching up with all the blogs etc!)

The main thing is that you enjoyed it! I've only done 3 craft fairs and have enjoyed all of them - Swirly was at the first two and Shaz at the third one so at least I knew someone! All three fairs have been very different and you can never second guess what will sell - I've always been surprised!

But glad you've booked for more and you are very brave doing a 3 day event!!! I'm booked for another 5 between July and December so I'd better get cracking making stock as my cards never stay with me that long!

well done. shame you didn't sell much but better luck next time, its the people who import things & sell them cheaply as far as I can gather from messages in the forum. Your stall looked great & I hope you didn't get too cold. I've still got my 1st fair to come but I don't feel as bad about it now as I did. Linda
