  • Interesting story of candle business

    Hi all,

I just read this article from 1971 on candle making

    http://www.motherearthnews.com/moder...#axzz2LL6TK3xC

Do you think this business model would work today or would you prefer to price higher and have to sell less for the same profit?

Hope you find this article interesting, and sorry if it's been posted before.

I think the main thing is to get your prices at the right level to sell. Although there is a lot sense to the general formula of cost x2 for wholesale and x2 again for retail it doesn't always mean you will be able to sell at that price in your market. At xmas especially people generally have a set price in mind for presents. They may be aiming to spend say, £15 per person and you may have just the thing for them but it's £20 ! So you loose the sale. Very often sellers have some great feedback from customers but this doesn't mean sales. Knowing you market and pricing accordingly could mean the difference between making money or not.

Great Article! Thanks for sharing :-) I agree with Melanie - pricing is such a tricky thing to get right. Just make sure you are always making a profit and you leave enough money to market your products so customers can find you!

I have a straitjacket at the ready.

Off to read the article as soon as I get these pesky kids fed and off to their beds

Mine too. Literally love her atelier, fragrances, and candles. Buy them over any other candle.
