  • Soy Wax Melts

    Hi All

This is our first post and would like to say what a wealth of informtion the site has been.

We have an online shop selling soaps and stuff but buy wholesale, we want to venture in making our own soy candles and melts, due to the new regs on candle making that might come in at any time it has put us off a bit but we are full steam ahead with soy was melts.

We have done some soy wax melts with great sucsses and have sold them to our local customers who have been more than impressed so will be adding these to our site...

My question is does anyone know the best place for buying moulds so we can now start to expand our range ?

also does anyone know what are the best sort ones made from plastic or the ones made from rubber ? do they both have the same life span or do you find one type better to work with than the other ?

    Look fowared to any advice..

        Hi Rachel,
just emailed Richard, and he say 'If you keep the pour temperature down and support the moulds in a tray of
sand or similar there should be no problem.
        Hope that helps
        Cheers

Good luck with the new line in wax melts I hope it proves successful for you.

With regard to moulds, I have used a number of different types including ice moulds, cake moulds and baking tins. I would say the most important part of the mould is its ability to handle the heat of the wax when poured. Depending on what temp you pour your wax most moulds could be used if you pour it as low as you can get away with. Importantly, try a little to see the reaction of any mould and build up from there.

I have tried rigid and flexible moulds and have had success with both - can't really say one type is better than another. Sensory Perfection have a good range so do Thornes.

Hiya - I would say check with AW to ensure you are legal using the pictures. I am not sure what their policy is on that.

                  Good luck with your shop.

Only trying to give you a heads up hon, as the fines for using someone elses pix without permission could run into thousands per pictures so it is worth sorting it out and getting the approvals for any pictures that you didn't take yourself. Just checked and they do require their permission for pix to be used in writing. If you have got that, you are ok, if not, I would get it sorted out asap.

By posting your shop web addy you are inviting visitors though and any visitor (that includes your competition) worth their salt in our business will know the stock.

It's your choice to run the risk and lots of people wouldn't bother to warn you. I am not being horrible or nasty - it's just a fact of life and online competition.

I have had complaints from people about me using stolen pix when in fact it was their supplier using my pix. Another time I had a complaint, two of us had taken similar pix by ourselves and our other competition were trying to pit us against each other. We got talking and had a laugh about it, but it is a big risk in such a competitive market and easy to get the approvals for, or take your own pix.

Again, good luck. I honestly wish you the best for your business and hope it works out for you as everyone who fails hurts all of us as we need small businesses to work in this economy to get customers to trust buying from us all as it spreads the word and trust in small online shops. Every customer who buys from you and is happy with the transaction is one more customer who will trust another small retailer so we all benefit in the long run.
