  • Covering a headband

I finally found some ribbon in the right colour to match some hat bases I need to attach to the headbands, but its not as easy as i thought. It bulks up as I twist it round the headband and looks a bit awful.
So Im trying it lengthways so Im wrapping the width around the width of the headband which looks alot neater but it wont stick.Im using carpet tape (like strong double sided tape)at the moment but even that doesnt stick, so il have to sew it but its not easy.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Try a decent overlap as you wrap it on and and fixing it as you go should surely stop it bunching up?

      I sand the frame.
put fabric glue or double sided tape alond the legnth of the ribbon. if its glue, allow to dry and go tacky.
start by adding approx 1" on the inside arm to the outside of the arm on each end. then fold and wrap it in a diagonal direction around and arround the frame. making sure the first inch is secured under the over lap. This means you get neat ends that look professional.
you over lay each wrap you do and as long as the complete width of the ribbon had glue or tape over the whole width you'll be fine..

I agree. I lie in bed at night thinking about projects and how to create etc. There are times I just want to get back up and go and have some fun!

Thanks one and all.The person Im making it for says its wonderful, so I can breath a sigh of relief.Il post it asap and hope she like sit in the flesh, then I have 3 more to make.
I attached double sided tape to the headband which stuck the ribbon in place then sewed the 2 edges together on the inside.Just foled the ends of the ribbon over the headband ends so nothing stuck out and sewed them up.
Im so relieved somehting worked and I found the right colour ribbon!!
Just have to hope I can get all the other parts needed now if I definatley need to make 3 more.I managed to buy 2 hat bases slightly the wrong colour the other day just because they are lattice, not the kind I bought originally.I had to reorder, thatl teach me to read things properly and not go on pictures.
