Paper beads

I've made some paper beads using the pages of magazines that I can't turn into envelopes (re-using, I love it!)
I want to seal them but I have no idea what to seal them with - does anyone have any idea? Also, if anyone knows a way of sealing without painting something on then that would be great - painting is not ideal with children!

Didnt people use something like wallpaper paste to seal island made out of papier mache back in the 80's, would that work?

PVA glue and water - that's what they use in Art Attack anyway!!!
