  • Where can i get cheap fabric?

Hi All, I am looking to make a patchwork quilt for my daughters first birthday. I have no experience so I don't know how many patches i would need to buy. I have had a look on ebay and some of them are expensive to buy. I have ordered some samples online but doesn anyone know any good shops or any places online for me to be able to complete this task? I live in south yorkshire. Thanks

I found a fab shop down in Hillsborough in sheffield with mountains of fabrics and a £1.00 a meter room too. Don't know what it was called, but I can find it on a map!

Are you looking for random squares? If so there are some market stalls in leeds that sell fabrics on a roll but they also sell swatches/ off cuts cheap.

Also you could try Folksy or Etsy.

          Good luck!

We have the Rag Market in Birmingham I always can pick up bargains there. Probably wont help you much but I thought I would post anyway. I know this is a bit of a cheat but Laura Ashley give away samples years ago I went into a local shop and told the girl who worked there that I needed samples for a project I was doing and if she could help me out with any discontinued fabric samples she did better than that and let me have one or two( if there was enough) of all the current fabrics, I ended up going out with a carrier bag full. I dont know if all assistants would be as obliging but its worth a go. I also recently started getting quotes to get a sofa recovered I contacted one on the internet and they sent me a sample of every fabric they did there was loads but that type of fabric wouldnt be very good to use as it was heavy upholstery fabric

Many Fabric shops have remnants boxes selling odd pieces for under £10... also charity shops are a great source if you want a variety of clothing fabric in small quantities!

There is a good shop in Harrogate called The Remnant House, they sell online too. They are not too pricey but often have sales and reduced items. They sell online as remnanthouse.
