  • What to do in a car......

Going away next week (I know, again!) and we will be driving to a little place 4 hours past Paris. Now I want to take some crafty things to do in the car (and while I am there) but what do I take?? I'm rubbish at hand sewing, I can't knit or crochet, card making would be too fiddly. So any ideas lovely people?
I know I could actually relax but thats not a word in my dictionary

Typical woman! Why can't you just concentrate on driving like the rest of us?

I always feel sick if I do anything in the car (no naughty comments please!!! ) so how about stocking up on some good sing-a-long CD's (like Wham) and watch the scenery!

        Can't you tell I'm an 80's chick?

Have you tried cross stitch. You wouldn't need to take lots of accessories to do them.

Thank you! That has given me a great idea - I've made an embroidered napkin for Anya but when it's in the wash she will need another one! Thats what I am going to do!!

You will have to show us all a picture of it when you get back from your trip. Hope you have a lovely time.

Are the children going in the car too?
If so, are you going to get a chance to do anything other than answer the "are we nearly there yet?"
                "mum I need a wee"
                "mum I don't feel well"
We stock up on story tapes from the library before we go anywhere on a long journey.
We've had some great adult things for when the kids aren't with us. Lord of the rings, Jayne Ayre, various ****ens stories etc.
When the kids have been there we've had Harry potter, lion the witch and the wardrobe,
When the boys were little it was Thomas the Tank Engine, Thomas the tank engine and Thomas the tank engine so thank goodness they've grown up.
Are you going away for anything special?

                  Story Tapes...

We've got some great grown-up titles, and they are really good at passing the time...

I bought Himself the Red Dwarf ones, but we had to stop listening to them, same with Terry Pratchett, because Himself was laughing to hard and his driving was very wobbly....

Horror of horrors....the new car doesn't have a tape deck! Oh Noooooo!!!

                      some suggestions

You could take some craft magazines to look through and decide on your next crafting projects. Any other book is also good for passing the time. Hope you have a great trip.

Reading in the car makes me sick so I can't do that. I will probably be driving as Mr Swirl will get in from Goa at 10 on Weds eve and we drive to France at 9 the following morning - fun fun! I'm going to take the embroidery stuff but whether any of it will get done is another matter! Anya has got lots of story tapes to listen too - Julia Donaldson stories - and she has a little lap tray that she can draw pictures on etc - hopefully that will keep her entertained. We have a potty too for emergency hard shoulder stops!!

My kids favourite pass time in the car is spotting yellow cars. When they do the whack you on the arm shouting "yellow car no hit backs". Do you know I didn't realise how many bl*ody yellow cars there are on the road. Drove to Blackpool last August and I needed my arms in a sling by the time we got there!!!

My kids do something similar, but it doesn't involve any arm bashing. They each choose a colour car the the first one to reach to ten wins. The only problem is that they usually end up fighting over who's going to be silver as thats the colour that normally wins.
