wood is porous so in order for it to used as a mould it would need to be sealed with varnish or wax, if you use wax you may get away without using a release agent providing there is enough wax to prevent resin getting a hold on the wood, if you use varnish to seal the wood you would need a release agent
usually in the same section in the diy store they have finishing wax some are natural some come with a colour, like wood dye. if you liberally brush the wax into the mould give it a min or 2 to draw into the wood then buff it up with a dry brush, if you use the mould without a release agent you will need to re wax fairly often as the resin will break down the wax coating
