  • Candles

    Hi,

I'm making a few tinned candles for Christmas.

They are 8oz tins and I have a few different scents.

How much wax do I need to use for 5 x 8oz tins of one scent? Is it just 5 x 8oz - 40oz?

    Thanks for your help!

      re;candles

      Hi there Silver Ruby

When I make candles maybe its because I have made them for so long but I don't measure the amount of fragrance I use except for my aromatherapy candles.

It really depends on how strong you want the scent to be, the typical usage for a strongly scented candle is 1 weighed ounce of scent to 1lb wax but as I say its I think personal preferance. Stir for at least two minutes, but do not stir too vigorously or you will only put too much air into the wax.

Hope this helps, if not please feel free to pm me.

When I've made candles, I've always used just a bit more wax than the weight of the finished candle suggests. I never really got into it properly though cos my mother complained I was wrecking her saucepans

When i make them, i like to have a little exrta wax available just in case they need a top up so maybe use 45oz

and depending on what wax you are using and the weight of the oil, try 1.5 oz per pound for a really strong scent. if your using plain parafin wax this wont work, but if your using container wax it will.

but then this is probrably far to late and youve made them already
