  • Soap Making - Regulations?

Just wondering, when you're making soap to sell to the public, do you need a certificate or anything? I plan on making lip blams too, but wasn't sure if it's similar to food production with a safety certificate and an inspected kitchen etc

    Thanks

    Hi Rosa,

If you have a look under this soap thread you will find the information your need. You will have to get certification, ensure all products are sold with ingredients lists, you need a set of scales re weights of bars, insurance etc.

All these topics are covered in this thread. It is a bit scary but don't let it put you off !!

    Take Care

yes you will need a certificate and ones for lip balms etc as well, basically any cosmetic product you make from soaps to lotions etc needs to be safety tested before you can legally sell it, you also have to comply with the eu regulations on labeling etc
If you buy products ready made then you won't need a certificate.
basically anything product that you use on your skin, needs to be certified.
there are a few new uk forums about that may help you on your way.

Technically if your giving soap to friends yes you do need them to be certified. unofficially who is to know if you just giving them away to friends and family,

You would need it to be safety assessed if you change the base product - add colours/scents, etc.
