  • Some advice needed

    Hi guys

I am brand brand new today and I am looking for some advice.
I am already addicted to this and I have not even started yet!!!

I am interested in making soaps and beauty products like lip balms and scrubs for myself and have been glued to the internet for weeks now.

Do you suggest that I buy a few kits first to see how it goes??
The kits seem reasonably priced and come with recipes and instructions.

    What do you suggest???
    Thanks in advance x

      Hi

Do you want to make CP or M & P soap, if it's CP we run courses with Melinda Coss.

I've not seen balm kits, though there maybe some out there. They may work out expensive though.
Remember if you want to sell you will need to have your products assessed.

Play around with different recipes, you will find one you like.

          Forgot to say

The lip balm kits are £9.99 and make around 30 small pots.
The soap kits start at £14.00 and the bath bombs kits are £14.00.

All come with everything that is needed to make them..

          What do you think?
Or I have been on an American site for recipes but am now totally confused as I want to make everything and there is soooo much...

I want to try out basic recipes and try to perfect it and then go on to add other things in when I am happy with the results.

Soap kits are more likely to be M & P (melt and pour)

I only make CP, cold process, which is made using oils and butter from scratch.

                Hi LimeBlossom.

I am brand new to this too! I have been wanting to do something like this for years, and I thought now was the time. Like you, I have been sat on my backside online for night after night looking into it all!

What I decided to do, after being unable to find a local course, is start with a body butter kit. I ordered mine from Plush Folly. Whilst on there, I came across a recipe section, with some fab ideas in. I have since ordered a few bits and pieces from some other sites (cocoa and shea butter, monoi de tahiti, beeswax, few oils etc) and I am just going to experiment.

When I tear myself away from all the fab sites I have found, I am going to start on my body butters - argh!! My next project after this is going to be Lime and Ginger Little Scrubbers, to go with the Lime and Ginger Body Butter I will make today. After this, I am going to have a go at a moisture melt, hoping to make my own version of the Elemis Monoi Moisture Melt - well, I can only but try can't I?!!

By the way, Plush Folly do some distance learning courses, may be worth a look.

                Hope you're having fun!
