  • Layering Melt & Pour Soap

    Hello everyone

Can anyone help me with my problem?

I have been making some great layered loaves of M&P soap but when it comes to cutting them into bars, the layers break. How can i make sure they stick and stay together?!

Any help would be greatfully appreciated, this is driving me mad!

    Thanks,

    Yellow.

Are you giving the surface of the first layer a spritz with witch hazel just before pouring on the second layer?

      Thanks for the reply Elaine.

I use Surgical spirit rather than witch hazel - is witch hazel better?

        Hi
I used witch hazel and had the same problem until someone said use surgical spirit.

What I do now is spritz when you pour in the first layer, leave to cool until the top is quite firm and then is slightly score lines across the top layer, spritz again and then pour on next layer. This so far and fingers crossed has worked. Another tip is to lay the loaf on its side when cutting (read this somewhere) not sure what or why but does work. Keep on persisting with this as I had exactly the same happening to me - each time thought I had done it and then a few slices would break up.

        Hope this helps

I've found witch hazel OK - generally used denat alcohol or isoprop but there's more difficulties getting hold of these.

            Hi there,
I make sure the bottom layer is partially set with a thick skin then spritz it with surgical spirit before pouring the next layer which I leave to cool until about 140 degrees. HTH
