  • Black Polymer Clay Beads!

    Hi All,
I've been looking for big black polymer clay beads for ages now, and only tonight thought of asking on here duh!!!!
Only thing is I need them quite big, roughly 25mm or as close as possible,
Anyone seen any of these about, or make them themselves,
I can get most other colours but not black!
    Thanks in advance
    Emma

Is it just plain black beads you want? Or some sort of pattern or finish?

I agree with others - make them yourself if you can, not only fun but also means you are not dependant on another supplier if you need more or run out.

Oh yey - do have a go, polymer clay beadmaking is such fun!

Where to start? Well, at its most basic, you just need to get yourself some clay and something to cut pieces of it and something to make holes.

The clay is easy - just come see me ;-) or look in your local craft shop, many carry a range of polymer clay these days.

A simple craft knife will be ok for cutting the clay, although as you progress you might want to invest in tissue blades. These long, thin blades are useful when you start on other clay techniques and you need to cut very thin slices from canes or long curves in sheets of clay.

To make the holes, well I have always used plain wooden cocktail sticks, but you can also buy metal peircing tools, use darning needles etc. i just like the slight grip that wood gives as you twist it into the clay to make the hole.

If you google for polymer clay tutorials, you will find loads of great info on the web for free. My own website has some simple claying projects to get you started too

                  Hope that helps,

                    Thanks Emma,
I've seen your website before and your beads are beautiful,
and my local newsagents has messed up my subscription of 'beads and beyond' and I see that you sell magazines too so I was going to order that on payday so may have to have a look for some clay too
                    Thanks for the advice
