  • Natural Peridot

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can tell me where I can get hold of some decent sized natural peridot nuggets? It's a really good friend's birthday in August and I want to make her some jewellery using her birthstone. Can't seem to find any drilled nuggets though! Ideally I'd like somewhere where you can buy them individually but if not a strand would be fine.

    Thank.

    Hi Jo,
I'm not sure I've seen large peridot beads. I wonder if it's one of those stones that doesn't lend itself to large beads, because of softness or price. Could you use small peridot beads or chips mixed with larger beads in a different stone?

I got some small peridot chips from Beads Direct - they were a nice colour, but very small! I haven't seen any large ones, but I would be interested to know if anyone has them.

Several years ago I was looking for some for a client and in the end I contacted Russ from rings and things in America. (the font of knowledge regarding stones) he said that peridot is only available in very small pieces. There are larger bits circulating, but the price is extautionate.

I've never been able to find any natural peridot in decent sizes ~ mainly chips and rounds up to 5mm and some briolettes, but even these were smaller than other gemstones.

Whenever I've needed to make a birthstone piece with peridot, I usually mix it with another stone or, if they want to keep the peridot colours, mix natural peridot with swarovskis.

If you find a supplier of some decent size stones, please let us know...
