    Yup...they're a rectangle shaped bead with puffed tops rather than cut flat tops.

    They're beads in the shape of a chewing gum tab. Not square though, chiclets are the same oval pillow shape as most gums. You can still buy it in many countries - I'd say it's the most popular gum brand in Egypt.

    Well you got me googling! It seems that a chiclet was a brand of chewing gum, 'chicle' being the French(?) for chewing gum. The shape was square and pillow-shaped. Would this make sense to the jewellery makers and beaders? Maybe not the chewing gum bit but more likely the shape part of the meaning? The beads I looked at seemed to have a smooth, oblong, domed appearance so it could be!
