I know french websites where you can download free patterns, and in my humble opinion, the language is not a problem. I know italian and japanese websites too where you can find animals, cartoon characters and kawai dolls free patterns. Beadangel, if you want me to give you the link, just send me a PM.

As far as I'm concerned, the latest beaded animal I made was a reindeer for my father.

I just finished the penguin, took a while to get the hang of it. I had to undo it several times but it looks great, worth persevering with. I am going to try the bear next!

I hadn't thought of such a direct approach, but with a hammer to flatten it a bit...

Actually I tried very hard, used left-over beads from the peacock feather and tried to make one of these guys:



so far I've got some decent looking front legs joined at the collar-bone and one toe but it's already looking far larger than I'd hoped: the teddy-bear pattern would need scaling up and that's too much effort at the moment!
