  • Ideas need - no tools jewellery??

    Hi all,

I've been asked to give a demonstration of jewellery making at our mother's union church group (similiar to the WI). No too difficult...except everyone wants to make something and bring it home and I've been asked to make a piece requirering NO tools!

I've been racking my brains and only have 2 ideas

    1. knotted beads on ribbons or silk thread, making it long so that it fits over the neck and just tied with a knot at the back.

    2. A memory wire bracelet, I would go around myself with pliers and round off the ends and just let everyone thread beads on.

    Anymore suggestions???

You could thread beads onto elastic and tie it

How about stretch magic bracelets, easy to do, not much creativity needed just beads for them to pick colours they like. Suggest taking some beading glue just to secure the knots so they do not come undone, hey presto in about 10 minutes they have a bracelet that they can wear. Easier than necklaces and less cost

or use bead sewing thread, ideal for small(seed) beads, then you just need needles and thread. and use buttons for fasteners.

                    Wire Wrapping

You could make necklaces or bracelets with some beads threaded on soft wire twisted around leather, this doesn't take up many beads and you could use gem chips for chakra style jewellery. You only need wire cutters. You could also make pendants by wire wrapping rough gemstones then putting them onto ribbon.

I've made headpin-type earrings just using my fingernails and the end of a pen to wrap round, but that's probably not what you mean!

You can also get earring hoops that you just thread the beads onto, can't you?

Otherwise, it's likely down to elastic... though you can tie jumprings/splitrings and lobster/bolt clasps or hooks onto thin leather or cord.
                          Cheers,

Paper beads on ribbon/cord...something to make from nothing bit of recycling maybe?
Punched thin card shapes strung on ribbon/cord make great pieces of jewellery
                              Good luck
