  • London-based newbie says hello to all you friendly crafters!

    Hi folks

This seems like a really friendly place to hang out for a compulsive maker like myself! It gets a bit lonely sitting in front of the telly and making random things, it's good to know i'm not the only one out there!! I might be stretching the definition of 'craft' though - my latest passion is to try and make a (simple) automaton. It's a wedding present for some friends of mine - I think it might be ready for their first anniversary!

I usually work as a workshop manager for an event management and prop-hire company, which is fairly busy, and this is what I do for fun. I hope to meet some like-minded people!!

I think they are mechanical models - is that right?

Hi folks, yes Critchley is right, they're moving models. Imagine a pig with flapping wings that move when you turn a handle, it's that kind of thing. I'm making my first one out of wood and hopefully some brass if I can figure out a few teething problems. I've just bought the gears, it seemed simpler, but I'm making everything else.

I'll post a photo when I've finished, it might take a while though!!

Thanks for confirming you think it's a craft! xx
