  • Shuffles feet, looks around awkwardly...

    Hi Everyone

I joined the craftsforum last year, but before I could even introduce myself, my stupid life got in the way and I never got around to it, I have been skulking in the background and been quite naughty in not joining in, so here I am

My name is Joe, I live in Derbyshire, and like to make jewellery mostly out of unusual things, and love to have a go at any medium I can turn into a piece of jewellery. My current favourites are resin, glue guns, bashing copper wire and using stuff that keeps turning up in my garden like old marbles, pennies, pottery etc.

Right o, won't keep you all, Must trot off and rediscover this fabby website!

Hi, welcome back! Okay, did you have to strip plastic coating off this wire first? We still have a spool of 300 feet of copper wiring - had it for years - but peeling the plastic, or vinyl, coating off is for the birds!! Would love to know a quick and easy way to do it!!

I have bought wire from shops, but as my brother is an electrician he gave me a bucket load of wire to strip down as he had loads of cut off's. I don't think there is any easy way, but cutting them into shorter lengths certainly helps, like foot long or maybe foot and a half, and some good strong sharp nosed snips, to nip away at the top on one side, then peel back a little, slowly at first, then soon it should just peel right back, that's the only way I know of for now.

I always clean mine with a little white spirits after to get rid of any residue from the plastic coating, and I love antiquing solution, it's amazing if you like that kind of a finish!

Am yet to put any up for sale as it's all been practice so far, but fingers crossed I'll have something decent done soon
