  • Another long time lurker saying hello!

    Hi,

I'm Alison and I make and sell jewellery made using real flowers. In the Midlands a lot of people know me from craft fairs as 'the flower jewellery lady'!

I'm really 'A Little Bit Extra Jewellery' at craft fairs and that name comes from the fact that I when I make jewellery I keep Plus Size women (like me!) in mind, as we often need 'a little bit extra' length when it comes to necklaces, bracelets, ankle bracelets, etc. I went on holiday to the USA in 2005 where lots of Plus size jewellery is sold and decided we needed more than the choice at Evans here in the UK!

So I started off in 2006 as a beader, then dabbled with polymer clay and glass before concentrating on jewellery made using fresh flowers. A friend went to Thailand and visited an orchid farm where they made jewellery from flowers and brought back a business card so I could buy flowers direct from the farm and it all started from there. I now buy flowers from Thailand, Australia and The USA to use in my jewellery. I started a website in 2008 and sell my pieces and some bought in pieces online. It has been so going, but I'll get there!

I finally decided to join today as I'm having a 'glue' problem - but I'll post elsewhere about that!

Look forward to chatting with you all!

              Welcome from me too.

What gorgeous jewellery and so unusual. I love the fact it's using nature.

Thanks everyone! I think I should stress that I don't make all the website jewellery myself and the flowers/petals are preserved in the country where they are picked. I don't want to seem more able than I really am!

Hi Alison, your jewellery is very beautiful, I haven't seen anything like that before, I love it!!.. So different and unique. Well done for recognising the longer length jewellery, I am a plus size myself, I am ok on bracelets as my wrists are quite slim, but I always have to use an extender on an 18" chain, as I find it sits too high up. Looking forward to seeing many of your creations, and a very warm welcome to the forum

                          Hi there,

In Louisiana, in Cajun French, lagniape means "a little bit extra."

Just this morning, my eldest sent me this gluing site -
