Hi all from cold, sunny Yorkshire.

I'm just starting out learning pottery/ceramics. My best friend Val, is an artist/painter and potter and is supervising me, though I want to make my own way too. Hopefully she will help keep my mistakes to a minimum....lol

Val has retired so is looking to do more with her artwork so we are planning to join forces and maybe do a few small craft fairs in Yorkshire. I've seen Rose Baskets website, which looks good for us.

I'm doing a Raku course in the summer, but in the meantime I'm practicing making templates for slab forms. I was a baker/pastry chef so used to rolling out and moulding dough, pastry, sugar paste etc. Hopefully my skills will be useful.

Looks like a great forum. I'm looking for other pottery courses in the Leeds/Bradford area so if anyone knows of anything let me know. Am also looking for a 2ndhand kiln suitable for a newbie, so any suggestions would be very welcome. From other comments on the forum that I've browsed it looks like eBay is not the best place to buy!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

When I started out in ceramics, many years ago, I bought a Hobbytech kiln as it used a kiln sitter and I didnt have to worry about temps etc.

At the time ceramics was new in the UK and I had to search the length and breadth of the country for supplies.

I am now doing a pottery course at adult college and doing slab work and raku sculpture. The college buys everything from Potclays who apparently have a very good telephone advisor.
