  • Hi, I'm a complete newbie to all this!!

    Good day, all,

Well, as it says on the tin, I'm new to just about all this stuff. Although I've been making 'things' since I could hold anything (?!, my mum is from the make-do-and-mend sorority) to 'ligitimate' it has always seemed a long way off. "Who wants to see my stuff?" that was my stock reply to any question and suggestion.

I've finally come to the conclusion (after many people telling me...) that my 'stuff' is pretty good!

I make jewellery (along with thousands of others, I understand that). I use anything from wood to sterling and fine silver and just about everything inbetween, shell, jade, semi-precious stones and copper..... but making is what I do...... selling, promoting I have no clue.

I tried ebay (which is great for selling the kids clothes, etc) but couldn't get any real, lucrative interest. I am opening a shop on etsy.com, but I've amassed so much of my 'stuff' that I need to go to craft shows. North Kent seems to be a desolate place!

I would gratefully welcome any insights from all you knowledgeable folks. You've all been doing this a lot longer than I have and I am open to learn.

    Thanks for listening,

    jaxbarton

            Hello and
It can be hard to appreciate yourself and your work. I know, I'm quite insecure about my stuff.

I think you just have to bite the bullet and go for it. From what I've read on this forum I think it's quite common to get the occasional 'kick in the teeth' and there's a lot of competition about, but you are that competition to others too. I think you're in the right place for plenty of tips here. Everyone's really nice and helpful!

Good luck with your work - I'm looking forward to seeing some of it!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Have you tried an Open House at your home, people spend more as less distractions and a glass of wine does wonders.
