  • Craft fair? I don't think so!

Hi all. I'm a professional fly tyer so I like working with my hands. I've done a few other crafts like card making & I made & sold stuff from wood turning for a few years, but then I got into creating jewelry which I've actually stuck too for about 2 & 1/2 yaers so far. As you can imagine, I've spent a fortune on materials & made a whole load of stuff, but I've only recently started looking for fairs to pedal my wares. It seems to be difficult to find places in central Scotland, JOY!.. However I saw that the Falkirk wheel kept advertising a 'Craft fair', & it looked regular, so I ventured along on my day off, got lost, but eventually got there only to find a mere 3 tables crammed in on the way to the cafe'. Apparently that was it!.. Even before I was a 'crafter', I would pay a visit to a place just because a local made fair was on. The cards there were probably local made, the guy selling fudge may have been local, but most of the jewelry definetly wasn't. I came across most of the stuff while googling for findings. Sollid Balli silver bracelets etc. The Falkirk wheel should STOP advertising this as a craft Fair, 3 tables does not make a fair! That was a few hours of my day off I won't get back!

I agree that it is so so frustrating and annoying when this kind of thing happens. My pet hate is "handmade craft fairs" which include moutains of cheap bought-in jewellery. It is a shame that you had to waste a few hours to find out that your local fair was no such tthing. I hope that you will find some decent fairs to sell your stuff.

Hello and to the forum. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at your first 'craft fair'. I can't offer any advice as I have never shown at one but there is sure to be a helpful bod along soon who can.

Shame you're so short of fairs in your neck of the woods but hopefully there will be some better ones somewhere, or perhaps even that one will get better if people feedback their disappointment

Hi, I stay in West Calder near livingston. I'm going to see if our local church might be interested in holding a regular craft event, it would make a pretty good venue & only 5 minutes from livi centre (tourists). Other than that, I know a superb church in Motherwell that might be interested! Will keep you all posted! Thanks!

It's so frustrating isn't it? I live in fife and there's absolutely nothing in the way of craft tairs going on. If you do hear of anything, let me know - I will travel within reason of course.
