  • I've applied for a job...oh scarey.

I've applied for a design assistant job, don't know much about it, but they want someone with textiles experience to work with a buying team for a major retailer, do know who at this stage. It would involve a move away from where we live now and it would be a big change because apart from Colourart I haven't worked properly for two years. My dd is coming up to 3 now so I feel that I'm ready, probably wont get it, but will be interested to see where it takes me.

Even if you don't get it, it's got you back out there experiencing the "working world" and getting you back into thinking like a grown-up instead of a mummy!

      All experience in life counts.....

Good luck with the application - it's scary getting back into the world of work again - think positive and do your best - that's all you can do - if you don't get it it's because there is a bigger and better job waiting for you just around the next corner.

          Fingers and toes crossed.

          Cheers.

            You'll be fine!
Be yourself and the passion for your work will shine through!
Be positive about your experiences of being a mummy - they are real life experiences and will show that you can prioritise, delegate, negotiate, multi-task, no stranger to long and varied hours......

I've been down the interview route (not by choice) recently. I applied for 3 and was offered all 3 with some very strong competition. I sometimes I think I picked the wrong one though

Oh how exciting. Where would you have to move to?
Hope you get it, you're obviously so talented they'd be daft to pass you up!
Would you still carry on with Colourart?

This is all such a long way off, but if I did get it, the position is in Buckinghamshire which would be great because this is where I come from and my family live there. I'd probably do Colourart if I could coz I do love it, but life is hectic enough at the moment so I don't know if I'd have enough energy. At the moment Colourart is well and truly continuing though. It sort of like my third baby (how sad is that??)

Wow, that's really exciting that you've applied for the job in the first place. I haven't worked for 3½ years and at the moment I can't even contemplate going back to work.

Here's massive positive vibes coming from me.

I've had a phone call today from the agency through which I applied for the job. I was so nervous, don't know why. Anyway she thinks its too late for the job I applied for even though its closing date is 14th July and I only applied about a week after it was advertised. Don't get that? She says it might not be though, so she's passing my cv on which is encouraging, but I think I'm getting cold feet now. Still I'll see what happens when the company get my cv, the job is in Milton Keynes which is near where I'm from originally, so it would be good from that pov.

The only thing I have to do now is send some photos of my previous designs from my old company and since they changed hands and premises, its proving a little difficult.

I worked as a recruitment consultant for 5 years, they always talk rot..I know I did too! Don't let her get away with saying it is too late, she needs to get her backside into gear and get the business looking at your CV. If you don't hear from her in a day call her. The squeaky door always gets oiled first!! If you are not successful with this one make sure she make calls to all the relevant companies in the area that you want to work and tells them about you. You can tell I used to be a manager can't you... I was hard as nails!!!
