  • Feeling very sorry for myself right now

I've just been diagnosed with a DVT. Fabulous, all I needed after the year we've just had. I have to have anti-clotting meds & give myself injections for a few days. Worst of all I can't fly. And now I've scared myself witless by reading all the stuff about DVTs on Netdoctor. Bum bum bum.

I had a swollen & painful calf. I saw my GP 4 times, they said it was something else not so serious, and def not DVT. Then I had a funny turn on the way to work on Friday, went to A&E as advised by the out of hours service and after being prodded, poked, linked up the mains, having an armful of blood taken, six lots of blood pressure [yes, six - and each one hurt more than the last] a chest XRay and an ultrasound scan on said leg, they found the DVT.

Needless to say I am scared sh*tless.

As long as you take the medication you will be all right. Sorry to hear about it though. My sister in law had a DVT in her leg a good few years ago. Scared her witless but she is absolutely fine now.

It will be allright in the long run.

            Hi Pretty things
Sorry to hear that you are so unwell. Make sure you rest and take all the meds that the Drs recommend. It's really scary when you are diagnosed with something serious, I know, I have Epilepsy and MS (Epilepsy because of the MS) It's always best not to look too deeply into the info available on the internet as it will always give a worst case scenario and scare the carp out of you!! Giving yourself injections is the pits I have to do it three times a week, just focus on the fact that it is doing you good.
Best of luck, feel better soon.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're unwell. I can't say anything other than what has said before by others. Take good care of yourself and don't log onto anymore medical web sites!

                Sending you a big * HUG *

Thanks everyone. I'm just off to do my next injection - I am diabetic so I used to have to inject but have used a pen for so long I got out of the habit. I managed to do it absolutely painlesslessly yesterday, which I was pretty chuffed about, hope it's the same today.

Hiya, thats not nice news to receive but on the positive side at least its been diagnosed now so hopefully you are not as at risk as you would have been... Try to stay chilled and definately dont read too much more scary stuff on the internet (having access to all that info has its good and bad points!). Hope it is sorted out soon.

Sorry to hear about the DVT, at least it has been found early, the same happend to my hubby about 6 months ago, when his leg kept swelling. They couldnt find a clot but they treated him for it anyway because they were convinced there was one there and it did the trick because it stopped swelling.

Hope you are feeling better soon, dont worry to much.

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis, like others have said though, at least it has been diagnosed and you know what you are dealing with now, take care of yourself and I echo the 'stop looking it up in the internet and scaring yourself' comments! ((BIG HUGS))

Best wishes and positive thoughts to you. I think everyone has already said everything and I can't think of anything? Am I rambling? Good luck with the injections, hope it's sorted out soon.
