  • Do any crafters have time for housework?

Don't know about you but I just NEVER have time for any housework! Having 2 children aswell doesn't help but whenever I get a few minutes to my self I am either sewing, at the computer sourcing fabric/zips or on this darn forum. Housework seems to be way down my list of priorities? Anyone agree?

Very little time for housework....it does get done, but I don't know how. Would you like to here my little rhyme about it? Well I write it just in case.

"I hope my children look back one day,
And see a parent who had time to play.

There will be years for cleaning and cooking,
but children grow up when your not looking.
      So....quiet down cobwebs
      ..........dust go to sleep,
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.

      Author unknown"

I think about this rhyme quiet often, but really I should spend less time on this forum too.

Lately i've either been working, seeing to my three kids, thinking about making some cards or sitting looking at my computer, whilst doing this i'm looking at the house thinking what a mess i wish somebody would tidy up this pig sty, then realise thats my job aswell. I'm glad i'm not the only one with a messy house!

I know I shouldnt comment as Im not really classed as a grown up and I have a room that I hate to tidy, but I was surprised to hear that tidying up is 'your job'.

              No its not.
Its a chore that should be shared. Please dont ware yourself out, share the work.I seriously doubt it was you that made all the mess in the house!

                  I'm Very Messy....

                  ...but also very lucky.

Where I make a mess, Himself will tidy up behind me. He's much better at chores than I am, and will do them willingly. We both work from home which is a major plus...permanent flexitime.

I do my bit though. I get the eeewwwww jobs, like my arm around the U-bend. I get to pick up after the cats too, but that's because Himself has asthma and the catlitter dust is a total no-no.

We both cook. Who ever cooks doesn't clean the kitchen, but more often than not we both cook and both clear up, although all of my children will rinse & stack the dishwasher.

Neither of us go near the kids' rooms. We just close the door....I used to nag constantly, but decided life was too short. They aren't too bad at tidying. The daughter will get so frustrated with her mess that every once in a while she goes berserk and it's left looking spectacularly tidy. Just never, ever open her wardrobe.....

I read the title and my response is ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ROFL!!!!!!! I think I have the untidiest house in the world. My friend has a very clean house - mops the floors every day kind of house and she despairs when she comes to mine! Mr Swirl was reading some tax thingy somewhere and he mentioned out loud (he later realised that he shouldn't have!) that if you are working from home then there is some allowance for you to get a cleaner. Or if you get a cleaner then you get a tax break or something. I'll email him and ask!!

                      No!!!! Oh Jings...

....I'd need to clean BEFORE the cleaner came! LMAO.....

My mother used to do that. For years she said she'd love some help, and then one day when they were a bit better off, my Dad said go for it, so my Mum found Mrs Facey.

After a while the cleaner took her to one side and said she wasn't coming any more and Ma was mortified, asked if the house was too dirty. No, said Mrs Facey, house is TOO clean, I've nothing to do!

Ow a cleaner - that would be a dream come true but alas alack no such luck.

I clean up a bit as I go along but with 2 kids, a full time job, a very messy craft and a very untidy husband the house usually looks like a tornado has hit. Particularly at the moment with the craft fair season upon us again.

I make a really special effort when people are coming round!!! and I am lucky enough that my son is old enough now to pick up a duster and use the hoover!!

I emailed Matt and helpfully he couldn't remember where he had read the thing about the cleaner. I think it was in the Guardian so I'll have a lookie at some stage.

I'm trying to be good today. As i was up at 6:30 i have washed up from last night, made up baby milk bottles, put a load of washing on, picked up all the toys scattered through the house, cleaned the bathroom and mopped the kitchen floor so now i'm having a cuppa coffee before round 2 starts. The best thing i find for motivation (now don't laugh) is putting the new Rocky Balboa album on, it just makes you want to get up and do something.
